Legislators of the state of Indiana, which recorded a whole nine wineries in 1989, are presently looking for legislative solutions to accommodate its growing wine industry. The state, which presently boasts over fifty vineyards and wineries, is embracing this growth, which is said to bring 800,000 visitors to its wineries and over $33 million to its economy from Hoosier wines alone. Whereas Indiana wineries, which are located in both the southern and northern portion of the state, vary in terms of whether their grapes are locally grown are imported, the legislators aim to create new protections that consider the needs of all of the state’s wineries and replace the present laws that are decades old.
